Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
Not typically indicated for adults in this strength/formulation. Adult dosage for Fexofenadine usually starts from 60 mg.
Elderly
No specific dosage adjustment is generally required, but caution should be exercised in patients with renal impairment.
Renal_impairment
For children 2-11 years with impaired renal function (CrCl ≤30 mL/min), the recommended initial dose is 30 mg (5 mL) once daily. For children 6 months to under 2 years with impaired renal function, consult a physician.
How to Take
For oral administration. Shake the bottle well before each use. Can be taken with or without food. Use a measuring spoon or cup for accurate dosing.

Within 1 hour
Excretion
Primarily excreted unchanged in feces (80%) via biliary route and urine (11%)
Half life
Approximately 11-15 hours
Absorption
Rapidly absorbed after oral administration. Peak plasma concentrations are reached in 1-3 hours.
Metabolism
Minimally metabolized (approximately 5% hepatic metabolism)
Side Effects
Contraindications
- •Hypersensitivity to fexofenadine or any of the excipients.
Drug Interactions
Erythromycin and Ketoconazole
Concomitant administration with erythromycin or ketoconazole has been shown to increase fexofenadine plasma levels. Caution is advised.
Antacids containing aluminum or magnesium
Co-administration with antacids containing aluminum or magnesium hydroxide reduces the absorption of fexofenadine. It is recommended to separate administration by approximately 2 hours.
Storage
Store below 30°C in a dry place, protected from light and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.
Overdose
Symptoms of overdose include dizziness, drowsiness, and dry mouth. Management should be symptomatic and supportive. Standard procedures to remove unabsorbed drug should be considered.
Pregnancy & Lactation
Pregnancy Category C. Use during pregnancy only if the potential benefit justifies the potential risk to the fetus. It is unknown if fexofenadine is excreted in human milk; therefore, caution should be exercised when Xofast is administered to a nursing mother.
