Xofena 180 mg Tablet contains fexofenadine, an antihistamine used to relieve allergy symptoms such as sneezing, runny nose, itchy eyes, and hives. It is a non-drowsy antihistamine.
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
180 mg once daily with water before a meal.
Elderly
No specific dose adjustment required unless renal impairment is present. Use with caution.
Renal_impairment
For moderate to severe renal impairment (CrCl <80 mL/min), initial dose of 60 mg once daily is recommended. Consult a doctor.
How to Take
Take orally with water, preferably before a meal. Do not take with fruit juice as it can reduce the absorption of fexofenadine.
Mechanism of Action
Fexofenadine is a selective peripheral H1-receptor antagonist. It blocks the action of histamine, a natural substance in the body that causes allergic symptoms, thereby alleviating symptoms like sneezing, itching, and runny nose.

Contraindications

Drug Interactions
Erythromycin
May increase fexofenadine plasma concentrations by affecting its absorption or excretion.
Ketoconazole
May increase fexofenadine plasma concentrations by affecting its absorption or excretion.
Antacids (containing aluminum or magnesium)
May decrease fexofenadine absorption. Separate administration by at least 2 hours.
Storage
Store below 30°C in a dry place, away from light and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.
Overdose
Symptoms of overdose may include drowsiness, dizziness, and dry mouth. Treatment is symptomatic and supportive. Gastric lavage and activated charcoal may be considered soon after ingestion.

Pregnancy Category C. Use during pregnancy only if clearly needed and the potential benefits outweigh the potential risks to the fetus. Fexofenadine is excreted in breast milk, use with caution during lactation and consult a doctor.
