AcmeCilin 250 mg Capsule contains Amoxicillin, a penicillin-type antibiotic used to treat a wide range of bacterial infections.
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
250 mg to 500 mg every 8 hours, or 500 mg to 875 mg every 12 hours, depending on infection severity and type.
Elderly
Similar to adult dosage, but dose reduction may be required in severe renal impairment.
Renal_impairment
Dose adjustment required based on creatinine clearance. For CrCl <30 mL/min, dosage intervals may be extended or dose reduced.
How to Take
Oral. Can be taken with or without food. Swallow capsule whole with water.
Mechanism of Action
Amoxicillin is a bactericidal antibiotic that inhibits bacterial cell wall synthesis by binding to penicillin-binding proteins (PBPs).

Excretion
Primarily excreted unchanged in the urine by glomerular filtration and tubular secretion.
Half life
Approximately 1-1.5 hours in adults with normal renal function.
Absorption
Rapidly and well absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract, not significantly affected by food.
Metabolism
Minimally metabolized in the liver to inactive metabolites.
Side Effects
Contraindications

Drug Interactions
Warfarin
May enhance anticoagulant effect, increasing risk of bleeding.
Allopurinol
Increased risk of skin rash.
Methotrexate
May increase methotrexate toxicity due to reduced renal clearance.
Oral contraceptives
May reduce efficacy of oral contraceptives (rare).
Storage
Store below 30°C in a dry place, away from light and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.
Overdose
Symptoms may include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain, and rarely convulsions. Treatment is largely supportive; hemodialysis can aid removal.
Pregnancy & Lactation
Generally considered safe in pregnancy (Category B). Excreted in breast milk in small amounts; generally considered safe during lactation, but monitor infant for potential side effects (e.g., diarrhea, candidiasis).
