Oral administration. Shake well before use. Can be taken with food to enhance absorption and reduce gastrointestinal upset. Complete the full course of treatment as prescribed, even if symptoms improve.

Cefuroxime axetil is a prodrug that is hydrolyzed to cefuroxime in the body. Cefuroxime is a bactericidal antibiotic that inhibits bacterial cell wall synthesis by binding to penicillin-binding proteins (PBPs). This leads to osmotic instability and bacterial cell lysis.

• Hypersensitivity to cefuroxime or other cephalosporin antibiotics
• History of severe hypersensitivity (e.g., anaphylaxis) to any other type of beta-lactam antibacterial agent (e.g., penicillins, carbapenems, monobactams)

Store dry powder below 30°C in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight and moisture. Once reconstituted, store in a refrigerator (2-8°C) and discard after 7-10 days.

Symptoms of overdose include convulsions, encephalopathy, and other neurological sequelae. Treatment is largely supportive. Hemodialysis can be used to remove cefuroxime from the system.

Pregnancy category B. Studies in animals have not shown harm to the fetus. Use during pregnancy if clearly needed. Excreted in breast milk in small amounts; generally considered compatible with breastfeeding, but monitor the infant for gastrointestinal disturbances or candidiasis.
