Adults

Typically 200-400 mg daily in single or two divided doses. For suspension, dosage needs to be calculated based on weight or prescribed by a doctor.

Elderly

Dosage adjustment may be necessary in severe renal impairment; otherwise, similar to adults.

Renal_impairment

For creatinine clearance <60 mL/min, dosage adjustment is required (e.g., 200 mg once daily for CrCl 21-59 mL/min, 100 mg once daily for CrCl <20 mL/min).

Excretion

Mainly renal excretion via glomerular filtration and tubular secretion (about 50%), some via biliary/fecal route.

Absorption

Approximately 40-50% absorbed orally. Food may delay absorption but does not significantly affect extent.

Warfarin

May increase prothrombin time (PT) and international normalized ratio (INR), increasing bleeding risk.

Carbamazepine

Increased carbamazepine levels have been reported with concomitant cefixime use.

Oral Contraceptives

May reduce the efficacy of oral contraceptives (though clinical significance is debatable, advise additional barrier method).
