Adults

Bacterial Conjunctivitis: Instill 1-2 drops into the affected eye(s) 4 times daily for 5-7 days. Corneal Ulcers: Instill 2 drops into the affected eye every 15 minutes for the first 6 hours, then 2 drops every 30 minutes for the remainder of the first day. On day 2, instill 2 drops every hour. On days 3-14, instill 2 drops 4 times daily, or as directed by a physician.

Elderly

No specific dose adjustment is required for elderly patients; use as per adult dosage.

Renal_impairment

No dose adjustment is necessary for topical ophthalmic administration due to minimal systemic absorption.

Onset

Rapid onset of action, with bacterial killing beginning within hours of administration.

Excretion

Primarily renal excretion for any systemically absorbed drug, but topical ophthalmic use results in negligible systemic excretion.

Half life

The half-life in ocular tissues is not well defined for topical application; systemic half-life is approximately 3-5 hours, but systemic exposure from eye drops is very low.

Absorption

Minimal systemic absorption occurs after topical ocular administration. High concentrations are achieved in the ocular tissues.

Metabolism

Minimal systemic metabolism occurs due to limited systemic absorption.

Other Ophthalmic Preparations

If multiple ophthalmic medications are used, they should be administered at least 5 minutes apart to avoid washout.
