Take orally, preferably at least one hour before a meal. Swallow capsules whole; do not chew or crush. For patients who have difficulty swallowing, the capsule can be opened and the pellets mixed with water.

Esomeprazole is a proton pump inhibitor that specifically inhibits the gastric H+/K+-ATPase (proton pump) in the parietal cells of the stomach. This irreversible inhibition blocks the final step in acid production.

• •Known hypersensitivity to Esomeprazole, substituted benzimidazoles, or any excipients.
• •Concomitant use with Nelfinavir.

Store in a cool and dry place, below 30°C (86°F). Protect from light and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.

Symptoms are generally mild and non-specific, including nausea, vomiting, dizziness, abdominal pain, and headache. Treatment is symptomatic and supportive; there is no specific antidote.

Pregnancy Category B. Studies in animals have not shown harm, but human studies are limited. Use only if clearly needed. Esomeprazole is excreted in human breast milk; caution should be exercised when administered to a nursing mother.
