Description
Overview of the medicine
Ema 20 mg Tablet contains Esomeprazole, a proton pump inhibitor (PPI) used to treat conditions caused by excess stomach acid. It works by reducing the amount of acid your stomach makes, thereby alleviating symptoms of heartburn, acid reflux, and preventing ulcers.
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
GERD: 20-40 mg once daily for 4-8 weeks. Erosive Esophagitis: 20-40 mg once daily for 4-8 weeks. H. pylori eradication: 20 mg twice daily for 7-10 days (with antibiotics).
Elderly
No specific dosage adjustment needed, but monitor for adverse effects.
Renal_impairment
No dosage adjustment required for mild to moderate renal impairment. Use with caution in severe impairment.
How to Take
Take one tablet orally, preferably one hour before a meal. Swallow whole with water; do not chew or crush.
Mechanism of Action
Esomeprazole inhibits the H+/K+-ATPase (proton pump) in gastric parietal cells, thereby blocking the final step in acid production. This leads to a dose-dependent inhibition of both basal and stimulated acid secretion.

Excretion
Approximately 80% via urine and 20% via feces as metabolites.
Half life
Approximately 1.5 hours
