Description
Overview of the medicine
Enclot 250 mg Capsule is an antibiotic medication used to treat a wide range of bacterial infections. It works by stopping the growth of bacteria.
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
The usual adult dose is 250 mg every 6-8 hours, depending on the severity and type of infection. Treatment duration typically ranges from 7 to 14 days.
Elderly
Dosage adjustment may be required in elderly patients, particularly those with impaired renal function. Close monitoring is recommended.
Renal_impairment
In patients with creatinine clearance <30 mL/min, the dose should be reduced to 250 mg every 12 hours. Severe renal impairment may require further reduction.
How to Take
Take Enclot 250 mg Capsule orally with a full glass of water. It can be taken with or without food. Complete the full course of treatment as prescribed by your doctor, even if you feel better.
Mechanism of Action
Enclot inhibits bacterial cell wall synthesis, leading to osmotic lysis and bacterial cell death. It exhibits bactericidal activity against susceptible microorganisms.
Pharmacokinetics
Onset
Therapeutic effects typically observed within 1-2 hours after administration.
Excretion
Primarily excreted unchanged in the urine (60-70%) within 24 hours; a smaller portion is eliminated via feces.
Half life
The elimination half-life is approximately 2-3 hours in healthy adults.
Absorption
Rapidly absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract following oral administration. Bioavailability is approximately 70-80%.
Metabolism
Undergoes limited hepatic metabolism to inactive metabolites.
Side Effects
Contraindications
- •Hypersensitivity to Enclot or any component of the formulation
- •History of severe allergic reactions to other beta-lactam antibiotics (e.g., penicillins, cephalosporins)
Drug Interactions
Probenecid
Decreases the renal tubular secretion of Enclot, leading to increased and prolonged plasma concentrations of Enclot.
Aminoglycosides
Physical and chemical incompatibility when mixed in vitro. Administer separately.
Oral Contraceptives
May reduce the efficacy of oral contraceptives; advise use of alternative or additional contraception.
Oral Anticoagulants (e.g., Warfarin)
May enhance the anticoagulant effect, increasing the risk of bleeding. Monitor INR closely.
Storage
Store in a cool, dry place below 30°C. Protect from light and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.
Overdose
In case of an overdose, symptomatic and supportive treatment should be initiated. Gastric lavage or activated charcoal may be considered if ingestion was recent. Hemodialysis may be effective in removing Enclot from the circulation.
Pregnancy & Lactation
Pregnancy Category B. Studies in animals have shown no evidence of harm to the fetus. However, adequate and well-controlled studies in pregnant women are lacking. Use during pregnancy only if clearly needed. Enclot is excreted in breast milk in small amounts; use caution during lactation.
