Overview of the medicine
Eryzen (Erythromycin) is a macrolide antibiotic used to treat various bacterial infections including respiratory tract infections, skin infections, and sexually transmitted infections.
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
250 mg to 500 mg every 6-12 hours, depending on the infection severity and specific formulation. Max 4g/day.
Elderly
Similar to adult dosage; caution in patients with hepatic impairment.
Renal_impairment
Generally no dosage adjustment is needed in mild to moderate renal impairment. For severe impairment, dose reduction may be considered.
How to Take
Oral tablets/capsules can be taken with or without food depending on the specific salt form. Suspension should be shaken well before use.
Mechanism of Action
Erythromycin inhibits bacterial protein synthesis by binding to the 50S ribosomal subunit, thereby preventing translocation of peptide chains.

Contraindications
- •Hypersensitivity to erythromycin or other macrolide antibiotics.
- •Co-administration with terfenadine, astemizole, cisapride, pimozide, or colchicine due to risk of serious cardiac arrhythmias and QT prolongation.
Drug Interactions
Digoxin
Increased serum digoxin levels, leading to toxicity.
Warfarin
Increased anticoagulant effect, leading to increased bleeding risk.
Theophylline
Increased serum theophylline levels, leading to toxicity.
Carbamazepine
Increased serum carbamazepine levels, leading to toxicity.
Statins (e.g., Simvastatin)
Increased risk of myopathy and rhabdomyolysis.

Overdose
