Overview of the medicine
Ketromin 10 mg tablet is an antihistamine used to relieve symptoms of seasonal and perennial allergic rhinitis, such as sneezing, runny nose, itchy nose, itchy watery eyes, and also for chronic idiopathic urticaria.
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
10 mg once daily, preferably in the evening.
Elderly
No specific dose adjustment required for elderly patients with normal renal function.
Renal_impairment
Dosage should be adjusted for patients with moderate to severe renal impairment (e.g., 5 mg once daily or 10 mg every other day).
How to Take
Orally, with or without food.
Mechanism of Action
Ketromin is a selective peripheral H1-receptor antagonist. It blocks the action of histamine, a substance produced by the body that causes allergic symptoms, thereby reducing allergic reactions.

Onset
30 minutes to 1 hour
Excretion
Mainly excreted via urine and feces as metabolites.

Approximately 8-12 hours
Absorption
Rapidly absorbed after oral administration. Peak plasma concentrations are reached within 1-2 hours.
Metabolism
Primarily metabolized in the liver to inactive metabolites.
Side Effects
Contraindications
- •Hypersensitivity to Ketromin or any component of the formulation
- •Severe renal impairment (CrCl < 10 mL/min)
Drug Interactions
Erythromycin
Coadministration with erythromycin may slightly increase plasma levels of Ketromin, but is generally not clinically significant.
Ketoconazole
Coadministration with ketoconazole may slightly increase plasma levels of Ketromin, but is generally not clinically significant.
Storage
Store below 30°C in a dry place, away from light and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.
Overdose
Symptoms may include drowsiness, tachycardia, and headache. Management is symptomatic and supportive, including gastric lavage and activated charcoal if overdose is recent.
Pregnancy & Lactation
Use during pregnancy only if clearly needed and the potential benefits outweigh the potential risks to the fetus. Not recommended during breastfeeding as it may pass into breast milk.
