Description
Overview of the medicine
Lutisone 0.05% Ointment is a high-potency topical corticosteroid used for various inflammatory and pruritic manifestations of corticosteroid-responsive dermatoses.
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
Apply a thin film to the affected skin area once or twice daily. Do not exceed 2 weeks of continuous treatment.
Elderly
Same as adults, but caution with thin skin or comorbidities.
Renal_impairment
No specific dosage adjustment needed for topical application.
How to Take
For external use only. Apply a thin layer to the affected skin and rub in gently. Wash hands immediately after application.
Mechanism of Action
Lutisone, a synthetic corticosteroid, exerts its effects by binding to glucocorticoid receptors in the cytoplasm, leading to the regulation of gene expression. This results in anti-inflammatory, antipruritic, and vasoconstrictive actions.
Pharmacokinetics
Onset
Within hours for symptomatic relief.
Excretion
Excreted mainly in urine and feces, predominantly as metabolites, if systemically absorbed.
Half life
Not well-defined for topical application due to minimal systemic absorption; systemic corticosteroids have half-lives ranging from hours to days.
Absorption
Minimal systemic absorption through intact skin; increased with occlusion, inflammation, or prolonged use.
Metabolism
Primarily in the liver if systemically absorbed.
Side Effects
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to Lutisone or any component of the ointment.
- Bacterial, fungal, or viral infections of the skin (unless co-administered with appropriate anti-infective therapy).
- Acne, rosacea, perioral dermatitis.
Drug Interactions
Drug 1
No significant drug interactions reported for topical application due to minimal systemic absorption.
Drug 2
Potentially increased systemic absorption if used with other drugs affecting skin barrier, though clinical significance is low.
Storage
Store below 30°C. Do not freeze. Keep out of reach of children.
Overdose
Acute overdose is unlikely with topical use. Chronic overdose or misuse may lead to systemic effects like Cushing's syndrome or local side effects like skin atrophy. Treatment is symptomatic and supportive.
Pregnancy & Lactation
Use only if the potential benefit justifies the potential risk to the fetus/infant. Consult a doctor.
