Description
Overview of the medicine
Nerfid 75 mg Capsule contains Pregabalin, an anticonvulsant and neuropathic pain medication. It is used to treat neuropathic pain, fibromyalgia, and as an adjunctive therapy for partial seizures in adults.
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
Initial dose 75 mg twice daily, may be increased to 150 mg twice daily within 1 week based on response and tolerability, up to a maximum of 300 mg twice daily. For certain conditions, total daily dose may range from 150 mg to 600 mg.
Elderly
May require dose adjustment due to age-related decrease in renal function. Start with a lower dose.
Renal_impairment
Requires significant dose reduction. Consult product information or physician for specific guidelines based on creatinine clearance.
How to Take
Take orally with or without food. Swallow the capsule whole with water. Do not chew, crush, or open the capsule.
Mechanism of Action
Pregabalin binds with high affinity to the alpha-2-delta subunit of voltage-gated calcium channels in the central nervous system. This binding modulates calcium influx into nerve terminals, thereby reducing the release of several neurotransmitters, including glutamate, norepinephrine, and substance P. This action is thought to contribute to its anticonvulsant and analgesic effects.
Pharmacokinetics
Onset
Pain relief typically begins within 1 week for neuropathic pain.
Excretion
Primarily excreted unchanged in the urine (approximately 98% of the dose).
Half life
Approximately 6.3 hours.
Absorption
Rapidly absorbed after oral administration, peak plasma concentrations reached within 1 hour.
Metabolism
Negligible metabolism in humans; less than 0.1% of the dose is metabolized.
Side Effects
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to Pregabalin or any component of the formulation
