Description
Overview of the medicine
Nixon 2 gm Injection contains Ceftriaxone, a broad-spectrum third-generation cephalosporin antibiotic used to treat a wide range of bacterial infections. It is administered parenterally.
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
Typical dose is 1-2 gm once daily (or in two divided doses) IV or IM, depending on infection severity. Up to 4 gm/day for severe infections.
Elderly
No specific dose adjustment needed based solely on age, but renal and hepatic function should be considered.
Renal_impairment
No dosage adjustment needed for mild to moderate impairment. For severe renal impairment (creatinine clearance <10 mL/min), maximum 2 gm daily.
How to Take
For IV administration, reconstitute with sterile water for injection and administer slowly over 30 minutes. For IM, reconstitute with lidocaine 1% solution and inject deeply into a large muscle.
Mechanism of Action
Ceftriaxone inhibits bacterial cell wall synthesis by binding to penicillin-binding proteins (PBPs), leading to bacterial cell lysis and death.

Rapid, typically within minutes after IV administration.
Excretion
Primarily via bile and urine.
Half life
Approximately 5.8 to 8.7 hours in healthy adults.
Absorption
Rapid and complete after IM injection; 100% bioavailability after IV or IM.
Metabolism
Not extensively metabolized; approximately 35-65% excreted unchanged.
