Description
Overview of the medicine
Optimox-05 Eye Drop contains Moxifloxacin, a broad-spectrum fluoroquinolone antibiotic, used to treat bacterial conjunctivitis and other ocular infections. It works by inhibiting bacterial DNA gyrase and topoisomerase IV, essential enzymes for bacterial DNA replication.
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
Instill 1 drop in the affected eye(s) 3 times daily for 7 days.
Elderly
No dosage adjustment required.
Renal_impairment
No dosage adjustment required for topical ocular administration.
How to Take
For ophthalmic use only. Tilt head back, pull down the lower eyelid to form a pouch, instill the drop, and close the eye gently. Avoid touching the dropper tip to any surface.
Mechanism of Action
Moxifloxacin inhibits bacterial DNA gyrase (topoisomerase II) and topoisomerase IV, enzymes necessary for bacterial DNA replication, transcription, repair, and recombination. Inhibition of these enzymes leads to bactericidal activity.
Pharmacokinetics
Onset
Rapid onset of action in ocular tissues.
Excretion
Primarily renal and fecal excretion for systemically absorbed drug.
Half life
Systemic half-life is about 12 hours, but ocular tissue half-life is shorter.
Absorption
Minimal systemic absorption after topical ocular administration.
Metabolism
Limited hepatic metabolism systemically; primarily excreted unchanged.
