Description
Overview of the medicine
Reset 120 mg Suspension is an oral liquid medication containing Paracetamol (Acetaminophen), primarily used for reducing fever and relieving mild to moderate pain in children. It works by blocking certain chemical messengers in the brain that cause pain and fever.
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
Not typically for adults in 120 mg suspension. Adults usually take 500 mg or 665 mg tablets.
Elderly
Not typically for elderly in 120 mg suspension.
Renal_impairment
Dosage adjustment may be required; consult a physician. Extended dosing interval is often recommended.
How to Take
For oral administration. Shake the bottle well before use. Use the provided measuring cup or spoon to ensure accurate dosing. Typically given every 4-6 hours as needed, not exceeding 4 doses in 24 hours. Dosage for children is usually 10-15 mg/kg per dose.
Mechanism of Action
Paracetamol is thought to act primarily in the central nervous system, inhibiting prostaglandin synthesis (COX-1 and COX-2) in the brain and spinal cord, which results in antipyretic and analgesic effects. It has weak anti-inflammatory effects.
Pharmacokinetics
Onset
Analgesia: 15-30 minutes; Antipyresis: <1 hour.
Excretion
Mainly excreted in urine as glucuronide and sulfate conjugates. Less than 5% is excreted unchanged.
Half life
1.25 to 3 hours (normal hepatic function), may be prolonged in liver disease.
Absorption
Rapidly and almost completely absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract; peak plasma concentrations reached in 30-60 minutes.
Metabolism
Primarily metabolized in the liver via glucuronidation and sulfation. A small portion is metabolized by cytochrome P450 into a toxic intermediate, N-acetyl-p-benzoquinone imine (NAPQI), which is detoxified by conjugation with glutathione.
Side Effects
Contraindications
- •Known hypersensitivity to Paracetamol or any component of the suspension
- •Severe hepatic impairment or active liver disease
Drug Interactions
Alcohol
Chronic alcohol consumption increases the risk of liver damage.
Warfarin
May increase the anticoagulant effect of warfarin, requiring monitoring of INR.
Cholestyramine
Reduces paracetamol absorption.
Carbamazepine, Phenytoin, Rifampicin
May increase the risk of hepatotoxicity due to enzyme induction.
Storage
Store below 30°C in a dry place, away from direct sunlight and moisture. Do not freeze.
Overdose
Overdose can cause severe liver damage, which may be fatal. Symptoms include nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, loss of appetite, and jaundice. Seek immediate medical attention. Treatment involves gastric lavage, activated charcoal, and administration of N-acetylcysteine (NAC) as an antidote.
Pregnancy & Lactation
Considered safe for use during pregnancy and breastfeeding at recommended doses. It is the preferred analgesic/antipyretic during these periods. However, always consult a healthcare professional.
