How to Take
Oral administration. Use the provided dropper for accurate dosing. Can be given directly or mixed with a small amount of water or juice.
Mechanism of Action
Paracetamol primarily inhibits prostaglandin synthesis in the central nervous system, leading to its analgesic and antipyretic effects. It has weak anti-inflammatory properties.
Pharmacokinetics
Onset
30-60 minutes for analgesia, 30 minutes for antipyresis.
Excretion
Excreted mainly in the urine as glucuronide and sulfate conjugates, with less than 5% excreted unchanged.
Half life
1.5-3 hours in healthy adults; slightly longer in neonates and with hepatic impairment.
Absorption
Rapidly and almost completely absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract, with peak plasma concentrations occurring within 30-60 minutes.
Metabolism
Primarily metabolized in the liver via glucuronidation and sulfation, and a small amount via cytochrome P450 pathway (producing a toxic metabolite, NAPQI, detoxified by glutathione).
Side Effects
Contraindications
- •Hypersensitivity to paracetamol or any component of the formulation
- •Severe hepatic impairment
Drug Interactions
Alcohol
Increases risk of hepatotoxicity, especially with chronic excessive use.
Warfarin
May enhance anticoagulant effect with prolonged use, increasing risk of bleeding.
Storage
Store below 30°C, protected from light and moisture. Do not freeze.
Overdose
Symptoms include nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, and eventually hepatic necrosis. Treatment involves gastric lavage, activated charcoal, and administration of N-acetylcysteine (NAC) as an antidote.
Pregnancy & Lactation
Generally considered safe for use during pregnancy and lactation at recommended doses, but consult a doctor before use.
