Adults

For infants 3-12 months: 0.5 mL (40 mg) to 1.0 mL (80 mg) every 4-6 hours as needed. Maximum 4 doses in 24 hours. Dosage is typically 10-15 mg/kg per dose. Consult physician or pharmacist for exact dosage based on child's weight.

Elderly

Not applicable for pediatric drops. Elderly patients should use appropriate adult formulations.

Renal_impairment

Dosage adjustment may be required; consult a physician.

Onset

30-60 minutes for analgesia, 30 minutes for antipyresis.

Excretion

Excreted mainly in the urine as glucuronide and sulfate conjugates, with less than 5% excreted unchanged.

Half life

1.5-3 hours in healthy adults; slightly longer in neonates and with hepatic impairment.

Absorption

Rapidly and almost completely absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract, with peak plasma concentrations occurring within 30-60 minutes.

Metabolism

Primarily metabolized in the liver via glucuronidation and sulfation, and a small amount via cytochrome P450 pathway (producing a toxic metabolite, NAPQI, detoxified by glutathione).

Alcohol

Increases risk of hepatotoxicity, especially with chronic excessive use.

Warfarin

May enhance anticoagulant effect with prolonged use, increasing risk of bleeding.
