Description
Overview of the medicine
Ritch 30 mg Suspension is a mucolytic agent used to thin and loosen mucus in the airways, making it easier to cough up. It is used in various acute and chronic respiratory diseases associated with abnormal mucus secretion and impaired mucus transport.
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
Adults and adolescents over 12 years: 5 mL (30 mg) 2-3 times daily.
Elderly
Elderly patients: Same as adult dosage, unless there is significant renal impairment.
Renal_impairment
In patients with severe renal impairment, the dose should be reduced, or the interval between doses extended. Consult a physician.
How to Take
Ritch 30 mg Suspension should be taken orally. It can be taken with or without food. Use the provided measuring cup for accurate dosage.
Mechanism of Action
Ambroxol Hydrochloride increases the secretion of serous mucus from the bronchial glands, reduces mucus viscosity, and activates the mucociliary clearance mechanism. It also stimulates the synthesis and secretion of pulmonary surfactant.
Pharmacokinetics
Onset
Starts acting within 30 minutes after oral administration.
Excretion
Mainly excreted renally (approximately 90%) as metabolites, with a small portion excreted unchanged.
Half life
Approximately 7-12 hours in healthy adults.
Absorption
Rapid and almost completely absorbed after oral administration, with peak plasma concentrations achieved within 1-2.5 hours.
Metabolism
Primarily metabolized in the liver, forming inactive metabolites.
Side Effects
Contraindications
- •Hypersensitivity to Ambroxol or any other components of the formulation.
- •Rare hereditary conditions that may be incompatible with an excipient of the product.
Drug Interactions
Cough Suppressants
The combination of Ambroxol with cough suppressants may lead to a dangerous build-up of secretions due to the inhibition of the cough reflex. Avoid co-administration.
Antibiotics (e.g., Amoxicillin, Cefuroxime)
Concomitant administration with antibiotics like amoxicillin, cefuroxime, erythromycin, and doxycycline can lead to increased concentration of these antibiotics in the broncho-pulmonary secretions, enhancing their therapeutic effect.
Storage
Store below 30°C in a dry place, away from direct sunlight and moisture. Do not freeze.
Overdose
Symptoms of overdose may include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and epigastric pain. Management is primarily symptomatic and supportive. Gastric lavage and induced emesis may be considered if recent ingestion.
Pregnancy & Lactation
Ambroxol should be used with caution during pregnancy, especially during the first trimester, only if clearly necessary and after consulting a physician. It is excreted in breast milk, so caution should be exercised when administered to a nursing mother.
