Overview of the medicine
Rovantin 40 mg Suspension is a leukotriene receptor antagonist used for the prevention and long-term treatment of asthma and for the relief of symptoms of seasonal and perennial allergic rhinitis.
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
40 mg (5 ml) once daily in the evening.
Elderly
No specific dose adjustment required based on age.
Renal_impairment
No dosage adjustment necessary for patients with renal impairment.
How to Take
Take Rovantin 40 mg Suspension orally once daily in the evening, with or without food. Shake well before use. Use the provided measuring device for accurate dosing.
Mechanism of Action
Rovantin selectively antagonizes the CysLT1 receptor, thereby inhibiting the actions of cysteinyl leukotrienes (LTC4, LTD4, and LTE4). These leukotrienes are potent inflammatory mediators released from various cells, including mast cells and eosinophils, and are associated with asthma and allergic rhinitis.

Onset
Within 24 hours for asthma symptom control.
Excretion
Primarily excreted in the feces via bile; minimal renal excretion.
Half life
Approximately 2.7 to 5.5 hours.
Absorption
Rapidly absorbed after oral administration; peak plasma concentrations reached within 2-4 hours.
Metabolism
Extensively metabolized in the liver by CYP2C8 and CYP3A4.
Side Effects
Contraindications

Drug Interactions
Rifampicin
May decrease Rovantin plasma levels significantly.
Gemfibrozil
May increase Rovantin plasma levels.
Phenobarbital
May decrease Rovantin plasma levels.

Overdose
