Description
Overview of the medicine
Secrin 2 mg Tablet is an antihistamine used to relieve symptoms of allergies such as runny nose, sneezing, itchy or watery eyes, and itching. It works by blocking histamine, a natural substance the body makes during an allergic reaction.
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
2 mg once daily, preferably in the evening. Max 4 mg/day.
Elderly
Generally, same as adults. Caution advised for those with renal/hepatic impairment.
Renal_impairment
Dose adjustment needed. For CrCl < 30 mL/min, 2 mg every other day.
How to Take
Take orally with or without food. Do not crush or chew the tablet. Swallow whole with water.
Mechanism of Action
Secrin is a selective peripheral H1-receptor antagonist. It competitively inhibits the binding of histamine to H1-receptors, thereby preventing the symptoms associated with histamine release, such as vasodilation, increased capillary permeability, and stimulation of sensory nerve endings.

Excreted primarily via urine as metabolites and some unchanged drug.

Approximately 8-12 hours
Absorption
Rapidly absorbed after oral administration, peak plasma concentrations reached within 1-2 hours. Bioavailability is high.

Primarily metabolized in the liver, mainly by CYP3A4.

Contraindications
- Known hypersensitivity to Secrin or any of its excipients
- Severe renal impairment (CrCl < 10 mL/min)
Drug Interactions
CNS Depressants
Increased sedation with alcohol, sedatives, tranquilizers.
Ketoconazole, Erythromycin
May increase plasma concentrations of Secrin.
Storage
Store below 30°C in a dry place, away from light and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.
Overdose
Symptoms may include drowsiness, dizziness, tachycardia. Management is symptomatic and supportive. Gastric lavage and activated charcoal may be considered if recent ingestion.
Pregnancy & Lactation
Category B for pregnancy. Use only if clearly needed. Excreted in breast milk, use with caution during lactation. Consult a doctor.
