Description
Overview of the medicine
Secrin 4 mg tablet contains a synthetic corticosteroid used for its potent anti-inflammatory and immunosuppressive properties. It is prescribed for various conditions including allergic disorders, dermatological diseases, rheumatic disorders, and certain respiratory conditions.
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
Initial dose of 4-16 mg daily, adjusted according to response and nature of the disease. Maintenance dose usually 2-8 mg daily. Should be taken with food.
Elderly
Lower doses may be required due to increased sensitivity and potential for adverse effects. Careful monitoring is advised.
Renal_impairment
No specific dose adjustment required, but use with caution. Hepatic impairment may require dose adjustment.
How to Take
Administer orally, preferably with food or milk to minimize gastrointestinal irritation. Take as directed by the physician.
Mechanism of Action
Secrin works by binding to intracellular glucocorticoid receptors, forming a complex that translocates into the nucleus. This complex modulates gene expression, leading to the synthesis of anti-inflammatory proteins and inhibition of pro-inflammatory mediators. It also reduces immune cell activity.
Pharmacokinetics
Onset
Anti-inflammatory effects typically begin within 1-2 hours, with full effect within 24 hours.
Excretion
Mainly excreted in urine as metabolites.
Half life
Biological half-life is approximately 18-36 hours, allowing once-daily dosing.
Absorption
Rapidly absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract, reaching peak plasma concentrations within 1-2 hours.
Metabolism
Primarily metabolized in the liver to inactive metabolites.
