Description
Overview of the medicine
Sonexa-01 Eye Drop contains Moxifloxacin, a fluoroquinolone antibiotic used to treat bacterial conjunctivitis and other superficial bacterial ocular infections. It works by inhibiting bacterial DNA replication.
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
1 drop in the affected eye(s) 3 times a day for 7 days.
Elderly
Same as adult dosage. No specific adjustment required.
Renal_impairment

How to Take
For ophthalmic use only. Tilt head back, pull down lower eyelid to form a pouch, instill the drop, and close eye gently. Do not touch dropper tip to any surface.
Mechanism of Action
Moxifloxacin inhibits bacterial DNA gyrase and topoisomerase IV, enzymes essential for bacterial DNA replication, transcription, repair, and recombination. This leads to bacterial cell death.
Pharmacokinetics
Onset
Rapid, typically within hours for symptomatic relief.
Excretion
Primarily renal and fecal for systemically absorbed drug, but topical ocular absorption is minimal.
Half life
Systemic half-life is approximately 11-15 hours, but ocular tissue half-life is difficult to determine precisely and varies.
Absorption
Systemic absorption is minimal following topical ocular administration.
Metabolism
Primarily hepatic for systemically absorbed drug, but topical ocular absorption is minimal.
Side Effects
Contraindications
- •Hypersensitivity to moxifloxacin or other quinolones
- •Viral or fungal eye infections
Drug Interactions
No significant ophthalmic drug interactions
No significant ophthalmic drug interactions are typically reported for topical moxifloxacin due to minimal systemic absorption.
Storage
Store at controlled room temperature (20°C to 25°C). Do not freeze. Protect from light. Keep out of reach of children.
Overdose
Due to minimal systemic absorption, an ocular overdose is unlikely to cause systemic toxicity. Rinse eye with lukewarm water if excessive drops are administered.
Pregnancy & Lactation
Use during pregnancy and lactation only if clearly needed and the potential benefit outweighs the potential risk. Consult a doctor.
