Description
Overview of the medicine
Sultolin 2 mg syrup is a bronchodilator used for the relief of bronchospasm in conditions such as asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). It helps to open airways in the lungs, making breathing easier.
Uses & Indications
Dosage

How to Take
Administer orally. May be taken with or without food. Use a measuring spoon or cup to ensure accurate dosing.
Mechanism of Action
Salbutamol is a selective short-acting beta-2 adrenoceptor agonist. It works by stimulating beta-2 receptors in the smooth muscles of the bronchial tree, leading to relaxation of these muscles and bronchodilation.
Pharmacokinetics
Onset
Onset of bronchodilation typically within 30 minutes after oral administration.
Excretion
Excreted mainly in the urine, both as unchanged drug and metabolites.
Half life
Plasma half-life is approximately 4-6 hours.
Absorption
Rapidly absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract. Peak plasma concentrations are reached within 2-3 hours after oral administration.
Metabolism
Undergoes extensive metabolism in the liver to an inactive sulfate conjugate.
Side Effects
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to salbutamol or any component of the formulation
- Thyrotoxicosis (relative contraindication)
Drug Interactions
Diuretics (e.g., Furosemide)
May potentiate hypokalemia associated with high doses of salbutamol.
Beta-blockers (e.g., Propranolol)
May antagonize the bronchodilatory effects of salbutamol.
MAOIs and TCAs (e.g., Phenelzine, Amitriptyline)
Increased risk of cardiovascular effects.
Storage
Store below 30°C. Protect from light and moisture. Do not freeze. Keep out of reach of children.
Overdose
Symptoms include tachycardia, tremors, headache, and hypokalemia. Treatment involves symptomatic and supportive measures. Cardiology monitoring may be required in severe cases.
Pregnancy & Lactation
