Adults

400 mg once daily or 200 mg every 12 hours, for 7 to 14 days depending on the infection.

Elderly

No dosage adjustment needed unless there is significant renal impairment. Monitor renal function.

Renal_impairment

For creatinine clearance 21-60 mL/min, 300 mg daily; for <20 mL/min, 200 mg daily. Hemodialysis and peritoneal dialysis patients: 200 mg daily.

Onset

Peak plasma concentrations are achieved within 2-6 hours after oral administration.

Excretion

Approximately 50% of an absorbed dose is excreted unchanged in the urine over 24 hours. Renal impairment necessitates dosage adjustment.

Half life

Plasma half-life is typically 3-4 hours.

Absorption

Approximately 40-50% absorbed orally, absorption is not significantly altered by food.

Metabolism

Not extensively metabolized in the body.

Nifedipine

Increased cefixime peak plasma levels and AUC.

Carbamazepine

Increased plasma carbamazepine levels.

Oral Anticoagulants (e.g., Warfarin)

Increased prothrombin time (PT) with or without bleeding.
