Overview of the medicine
Torped contains Tramadol Hydrochloride, an opioid analgesic used to manage moderate to moderately severe pain.
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
Initially 50 mg every 4-6 hours, max 400 mg/day.
Elderly
Reduced dose may be required, max 300 mg/day for over 75 years.
Renal_impairment
Increase dosing interval to 12 hours for CrCl < 30 mL/min.
How to Take
Oral, with or without food.
Mechanism of Action
Binds to µ-opioid receptors and inhibits reuptake of norepinephrine and serotonin.

Rapidly absorbed after oral administration, bioavailability is about 75%.

Side Effects
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to tramadol or opioids
- Acute intoxication with alcohol, hypnotics, analgesics, opioids, psychotropics
- Patients receiving MAO inhibitors
Drug Interactions
Carbamazepine
Decreases tramadol plasma concentrations, reducing analgesic effect.
MAO inhibitors
Increased risk of serotonin syndrome and seizures.
SSRIs, TCAs, other opioids
Increased risk of serotonin syndrome and CNS depression.
Storage
Store below 30°C, protect from light and moisture.
Overdose
Symptoms include respiratory depression, somnolence, coma, seizures, cardiac arrest, death. Naloxone is the antidote for respiratory depression.
Pregnancy & Lactation
Category C. Use only if potential benefit outweighs risk. Excreted in breast milk.
