Overview of the medicine
Visral (Pizotifen) is primarily used for the prophylaxis of migraine and other vascular headaches. It also acts as an appetite stimulant, sometimes used in underweight patients.
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
Initial: 0.5 mg daily, preferably at night. Gradually increase to 0.5 mg three times daily or 1.5 mg once daily at night. Max: 4.5 mg/day.
Elderly
Start with lower doses and titrate carefully due to increased sensitivity to side effects.
Renal_impairment
Use with caution. Dosage reduction may be necessary.
How to Take
Tablets can be taken with or without food. Syrup can be measured with a dosing spoon. Take preferably at night initially due to sedative effects.
Mechanism of Action
