Cefpodoxime Proxetil is a prodrug that is de-esterified in the gastrointestinal tract to its active metabolite, cefpodoxime. Cefpodoxime exerts its bactericidal action by inhibiting bacterial cell wall synthesis. It binds to penicillin-binding proteins (PBPs) located inside the bacterial cell wall, which prevents the cross-linking of peptidoglycan polymers, ultimately leading to cell lysis and death.

• Hypersensitivity to cefpodoxime or other cephalosporins
• History of severe hypersensitivity reactions to any other beta-lactam antibiotic (e.g., penicillins)

Store dry powder below 30°C, protected from light and moisture. After reconstitution, store in a refrigerator (2-8°C). Do not freeze.

In case of overdose, symptomatic and supportive measures are recommended. Hemodialysis or peritoneal dialysis may be helpful in removing cefpodoxime from the body, especially in patients with impaired renal function.

Pregnancy Category B. Use only if clearly needed. Small amounts of cefpodoxime are excreted in breast milk; caution should be exercised when administered to a nursing mother.
