Overview of the medicine
Nixon (Fexofenadine) is a second-generation antihistamine used to relieve symptoms of seasonal allergic rhinitis and chronic idiopathic urticaria without causing significant drowsiness.
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
Seasonal Allergic Rhinitis: 60 mg twice daily or 120 mg/180 mg once daily. Chronic Idiopathic Urticaria: 180 mg once daily.
Elderly
No dose adjustment is generally recommended unless there is significant renal impairment.
Renal_impairment

How to Take

Mechanism of Action
Fexofenadine is a selective peripheral H1-receptor antagonist. It competitively blocks histamine from binding to H1 receptors, thereby preventing the effects of histamine such as itching, sneezing, watery eyes, and runny nose.

Approximately 1 hour
Excretion
Mainly excreted unchanged in feces (approximately 80%) and urine (approximately 11%).
Half life
Approximately 14.4 hours

Metabolism
Minimally metabolized; about 5% of the total dose is metabolized, primarily in the liver.
Side Effects

- •Known hypersensitivity to fexofenadine or any components of the formulation.
Drug Interactions
Erythromycin & Ketoconazole

Storage
Store in a cool and dry place, below 30°C. Protect from light and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.
Overdose
In cases of overdose, typical symptoms include dizziness, drowsiness, and dry mouth. Management should be symptomatic and supportive. Standard measures to remove unabsorbed drug should be considered.
