Description
Overview of the medicine
Flux-125 mg Suspension is an antibiotic medication, with Amoxicillin as its active ingredient, used to treat a variety of bacterial infections. It belongs to the penicillin class of antibiotics, working by stopping the growth of bacteria. It is commonly prescribed for respiratory tract infections, ear infections, skin and soft tissue infections, and urinary tract infections.
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
Adult use of 125 mg suspension is uncommon, higher strengths are typically used. For specific low-dose regimens or as directed by a physician, dosages may vary. Typical adult oral dose of Amoxicillin is 250-500 mg every 8 hours.
Children
20-40 mg/kg/day divided into three doses, or as directed by physician. For example, children 1-3 years: 125 mg (5 ml) three times daily; children 3-10 years: 250 mg (10 ml) three times daily. Max 1.5 g/day.
Renal_impairment
Dosage adjustment is necessary for patients with severe renal impairment (creatinine clearance < 30 ml/min). Consult physician for specific guidelines.
How to Take
Shake the bottle well before each use. Measure the prescribed dose accurately using the provided measuring cup or spoon. Can be taken with or without food, but taking it with food may reduce gastrointestinal discomfort.
Mechanism of Action
Flux-125 mg Suspension (Amoxicillin) acts by inhibiting bacterial cell wall synthesis. It binds to penicillin-binding proteins (PBPs) located in the bacterial cell wall, which prevents the cross-linking of peptidoglycan polymers, essential for bacterial cell wall integrity and strength. This leads to disruption of the cell wall, ultimately causing bacterial cell lysis and death.
Pharmacokinetics
Onset
Within 30-60 minutes.
Excretion
Primarily excreted unchanged in the urine via glomerular filtration and tubular secretion. A small amount is excreted in bile.
Half life
Approximately 1-1.5 hours.
Absorption
Rapidly and well absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract, especially when taken on an empty stomach. Bioavailability is around 70-90%. Peak plasma concentrations are reached within 1-2 hours after oral administration.
Metabolism
Limited metabolism; a small portion undergoes hepatic metabolism to inactive metabolites.
Side Effects
Contraindications
- Known hypersensitivity to penicillin or any component of the formulation.
- History of severe allergic reaction to other beta-lactam antibiotics (e.g., cephalosporins).
Drug Interactions
Warfarin
May enhance the anticoagulant effect, increasing the risk of bleeding. Close monitoring of INR is recommended.
Methotrexate
May decrease the renal clearance of methotrexate, leading to increased methotrexate toxicity.
Oral Contraceptives
May reduce the efficacy of oral contraceptives; advise using alternative birth control methods.
Storage
Store the dry powder below 30°C in a cool, dry place, protected from light and moisture. Keep reconstituted suspension in a refrigerator (2-8°C) and discard after 7-14 days (check product leaflet). Do not freeze.
Overdose
Symptoms of overdose may include severe nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and convulsions in rare cases. Treatment should be supportive and symptomatic. Gastric lavage and activated charcoal may be considered if ingestion is recent. Hemodialysis can effectively remove Amoxicillin (the active ingredient of Flux) from circulation.
Pregnancy & Lactation
Pregnancy Category B. Studies in animals have not shown a risk, but there are no adequate and well-controlled studies in pregnant women. Use only if clearly needed. It is excreted in breast milk in small amounts; use with caution in breastfeeding mothers and monitor for adverse effects in the infant (e.g., sensitization, diarrhea, candidiasis).

Doctor Notes
- Always inquire about previous penicillin or beta-lactam allergies before prescribing.
- Emphasize to parents/guardians the critical importance of completing the full course of treatment to ensure eradication of infection and minimize resistance.
- Monitor patients for signs of superinfection (e.g., oral thrush, vaginal candidiasis, new onset severe diarrhea) during and after treatment.
Patient Guidelines
- Complete the entire course of medication as prescribed by your doctor, even if you feel better, to prevent recurrence and development of resistance.
- Shake the suspension bottle well before each dose.
- Use the provided measuring device for accurate dosing.
- Do not share your medication with others, even if they have similar symptoms.
- Report any new or worsening symptoms, especially severe diarrhea, to your doctor immediately.
Missed Dose Advice
