Description
Overview of the medicine
Flux-250-mg-injection is a broad-spectrum antibiotic belonging to the fluoroquinolone class. It is used to treat a wide range of severe bacterial infections in adults.
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
250 mg IV once daily, infused over 60 minutes. Duration depends on infection type, typically 7-14 days.
Elderly
No specific dose adjustment for elderly, but monitor renal function and adjust if impaired.
Renal_impairment
Dose reduction necessary for creatinine clearance < 50 mL/min. Consult product leaflet for specific guidelines.
How to Take
Administer as an intravenous (IV) infusion over 60 minutes. Do not administer as a rapid or bolus injection. Dilution may be required before use; follow manufacturer's instructions.
Mechanism of Action
It inhibits bacterial DNA gyrase and topoisomerase IV, essential enzymes involved in bacterial DNA replication, transcription, repair, and recombination, leading to bacterial cell death.
Pharmacokinetics
Onset
Within minutes after IV infusion.
Excretion
Primarily excreted unchanged by the kidneys.
Half life
Approximately 6-8 hours.
Absorption
Rapid and complete absorption after intravenous administration (bioavailability 100%).
Metabolism
Minimally metabolized in the liver.
Side Effects
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to Flux, other fluoroquinolones, or any excipients.
- History of tendinopathy or tendon rupture associated with fluoroquinolone use.
- Children and adolescents (under 18 years of age) due to risk of joint cartilage damage.
- Patients with epilepsy or other CNS disorders that may predispose to seizures.
Drug Interactions
Warfarin
May enhance the anticoagulant effect of warfarin, requiring careful monitoring of INR.
Corticosteroids
Concomitant use may increase the risk of tendon disorders.
Antidiabetic agents
Risk of dysglycemia (hypoglycemia or hyperglycemia).
NSAIDs (Nonsteroidal Anti-inflammatory Drugs)
May increase the risk of CNS stimulation and convulsive seizures.
Storage
Store below 30°C. Protect from light. Do not freeze. Keep out of reach of children.
Overdose
In case of an overdose, symptomatic and supportive treatment should be initiated. Hemodialysis or peritoneal dialysis is not effective in removing significant amounts of Flux from the body.
Pregnancy & Lactation
Not recommended during pregnancy or lactation due to potential risks to the fetus/infant (e.g., arthropathy). Use only if the potential benefit justifies the potential risk, and under strict medical supervision.
