Description
Overview of the medicine
Jasocaine 2% Gel is a topical anesthetic used to relieve pain, itching, or discomfort from minor skin irritations, insect bites, or minor burns.
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
Apply a thin layer to the affected area 2 to 3 times daily, or as directed by a physician. Do not exceed 4 applications in 24 hours.
Elderly
Similar to adult dosage. Caution advised for patients with compromised hepatic function.
Renal_impairment
No dosage adjustment is typically required for topical application due to minimal systemic absorption. Consult a physician for severe impairment.
How to Take
For external use only. Clean the affected area thoroughly before application. Apply a thin, even layer of gel to the skin and gently rub in. Wash hands immediately after use unless hands are the treated area.
Mechanism of Action
Jasocaine works by blocking the nerve signals in the body. It temporarily numbs the skin and surrounding tissues by inhibiting the influx of sodium ions across the nerve membrane, thereby preventing the initiation and conduction of nerve impulses.
Pharmacokinetics
Onset
Rapid onset of action, typically within 2-5 minutes after topical application.
Excretion
Metabolites and unchanged drug (if any) are primarily excreted via the kidneys.
Half life
If significant systemic absorption occurs, the elimination half-life is approximately 1.5-3 hours.
Absorption
Minimal systemic absorption occurs from intact skin. Absorption increases with broken skin, application to mucous membranes, or large surface areas.
Metabolism
Primarily metabolized in the liver by hydrolytic cleavage of the amide bond (if systemically absorbed).
Side Effects
Contraindications
- •Known hypersensitivity to jasocaine or other amide-type local anesthetics, or any component of the gel.
- •Application to large areas of severely broken or infected skin without medical supervision.
Drug Interactions
Class I Antiarrhythmics
If significant systemic absorption occurs, concurrent use with Class I antiarrhythmic drugs (e.g., mexiletine) may result in additive cardiac effects.
Other Local Anesthetics
Concurrent use with other local anesthetics may increase the risk of systemic toxicity.
Storage
Store below 25°C in a cool, dry place. Protect from light and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.
Overdose
Overdose from topical Jasocaine gel is rare but may manifest as localized irritation, redness, or burning. Systemic toxicity is highly unlikely with proper use of a 2% topical formulation but could include CNS (drowsiness, dizziness, tremors) or cardiovascular effects (bradycardia, hypotension) if extensive absorption occurs.
Pregnancy & Lactation
Generally considered safe for topical use during pregnancy and lactation due to minimal systemic absorption. However, consult a physician before use, especially if applying to large areas or for prolonged periods.
