Lifcin 500 mg Injection is a broad-spectrum fluoroquinolone antibiotic used to treat various bacterial infections, including those affecting the urinary tract, respiratory system, skin, and bones. It works by stopping the growth of bacteria.
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
Dosage varies based on infection type and severity. Typically 400 mg IV every 8-12 hours via slow infusion. A 500 mg dose may be used for specific indications or as a single dose.
Elderly
Dosage adjustment may be necessary based on renal function and overall health status.
Renal_impairment
Dosage adjustment is required for patients with creatinine clearance < 30 mL/min.
How to Take
Administer by slow intravenous infusion over 60 minutes. Do not administer as a bolus injection.
Mechanism of Action
Ciprofloxacin inhibits bacterial DNA gyrase and topoisomerase IV, enzymes necessary for DNA replication, transcription, repair, and recombination. This leads to bacterial cell death.

Contraindications

Warfarin
May enhance the anticoagulant effect of warfarin. Monitor INR/PT carefully.
Tizanidine
Concomitant use is contraindicated due to increased tizanidine exposure and risk of hypotension and somnolence.
Cyclosporine
May increase serum creatinine levels. Monitor renal function.
Theophylline
Ciprofloxacin can increase plasma concentrations of theophylline, leading to toxicity. Monitor theophylline levels.
Antacids/Iron/Zinc (oral form)
Reduced absorption if taken concurrently with oral ciprofloxacin. Not relevant for injection, but mention for awareness.

Store below 25°C-30°C. Protect from light. Do not freeze.
Overdose
In case of overdose, supportive care and symptomatic treatment should be initiated. Ciprofloxacin is poorly removed by hemodialysis or peritoneal dialysis.
