Sefurox

For intravenous administration, reconstitute the powder with sterile water for injection and administer slowly over 3-5 minutes or as an infusion over 30 minutes. For intramuscular administration, reconstitute with sterile water for injection and inject deeply into a large muscle mass.

Cefuroxime acts by inhibiting bacterial cell wall synthesis. It binds to penicillin-binding proteins (PBPs), which are enzymes involved in the final stages of peptidoglycan synthesis, thereby preventing the formation of a stable cell wall and leading to bacterial lysis.

• Hypersensitivity to cefuroxime or other cephalosporin antibiotics
• History of severe hypersensitivity reaction to any other type of beta-lactam antibacterial agent (e.g., penicillins, carbapenems)

Store below 30°C. Protect from light and moisture. Reconstituted solution should be used immediately or within 24 hours if refrigerated.

Symptoms of overdose include convulsions, encephalopathy, and neuromuscular excitability. Management is supportive, including hemodialysis for severe cases.

Pregnancy category B. Use during pregnancy only if clearly needed. Excreted in breast milk in small amounts; generally considered compatible with breastfeeding, but monitor infant for adverse effects.
