Description
Overview of the medicine
Tdcef 200 mg Tablet is a broad-spectrum antibiotic belonging to the cephalosporin class, used to treat various bacterial infections.
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
200 mg orally every 12-24 hours, or 400 mg once daily, depending on the infection. Duration is typically 7-14 days.
Elderly
No specific dose adjustment required unless severe renal impairment.
Renal_impairment
Dose adjustment needed. For CrCl 21-60 mL/min, 300 mg daily. For CrCl <20 mL/min, 200 mg daily.
How to Take
May be taken with or without food. To minimize gastrointestinal upset, it can be taken with food. Swallow the tablet whole with a glass of water. Do not crush or chew.
Mechanism of Action
Cefixime works by inhibiting bacterial cell wall synthesis. It binds to penicillin-binding proteins (PBPs) located inside the bacterial cell wall, thereby inhibiting the third and final stage of bacterial cell wall synthesis. Cell lysis is then mediated by bacterial cell wall autolytic enzymes.
Pharmacokinetics

Absorption
Approximately 40-50% orally absorbed. Food slightly delays absorption but does not significantly affect the extent.
