How to Take

Mechanism of Action
Azithromycin works by binding to the 50S ribosomal subunit of susceptible microorganisms, thereby inhibiting protein synthesis and impeding bacterial growth.
Pharmacokinetics

Within 24-48 hours
Excretion
Mainly through bile for systemically absorbed drug; topical excretion is via tear film dilution.
Half life
Not well-defined for topical ophthalmic use due to minimal systemic absorption, but systemic half-life is 2-4 days.
Absorption
Minimal systemic absorption after ocular administration.
Metabolism
Minimal hepatic metabolism, primarily for systemically absorbed drug.
Side Effects
Contraindications
- •Hypersensitivity to azithromycin, any macrolide antibiotic, or any component of the formulation.
Drug Interactions
None
Systemic drug interactions are unlikely with ophthalmic use due to minimal systemic absorption.

Store at room temperature (below 30°C). Protect from light and moisture. Do not freeze. Keep out of reach of children.
Overdose
Accidental overdose is unlikely with ophthalmic use. If swallowed, supportive care and observation are recommended. No specific antidote.
Pregnancy & Lactation
Pregnancy Category B. Studies in animals have shown no evidence of harm to the fetus; however, there are no adequate and well-controlled studies in pregnant women. Use during pregnancy only if clearly needed. It is unknown whether azithromycin is excreted in human milk following ophthalmic administration; use with caution in nursing mothers.
