Description
Overview of the medicine
3-bion 100 mg Tablet is a combination of three essential B vitamins (Thiamine, Pyridoxine, and Cyanocobalamin) crucial for nerve health, metabolism, and overall well-being. It is primarily used to treat and prevent vitamin B deficiencies and associated neurological conditions.
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
Usually 1-3 tablets daily, or as directed by the physician. The dosage may vary depending on the severity of the deficiency or condition.
Elderly
No specific dosage adjustment is typically required for elderly patients, same as adults, unless significant renal impairment is present.
Renal_impairment
Generally, no dosage adjustment is needed for mild to moderate renal impairment. For severe impairment or high doses, consult a physician due to potential accumulation of pyridoxine.
How to Take
3-bion 100 mg Tablet should be taken orally with water. It can be taken with or without food. Follow the physician's instructions regarding dose and duration.
Mechanism of Action
Thiamine (Vitamin B1) is essential for carbohydrate metabolism and nerve impulse transmission. Pyridoxine (Vitamin B6) is involved in amino acid metabolism and neurotransmitter synthesis. Cyanocobalamin (Vitamin B12) is crucial for DNA synthesis, red blood cell formation, and maintaining the myelin sheath around nerves.
Pharmacokinetics
Onset
Therapeutic effects, especially for neurological symptoms, may be gradual, appearing over days to weeks.
Excretion
Mainly renal (via urine).
Half life
Thiamine: approximately 18-36 hours; Pyridoxine: about 15-20 days (due to tissue storage); Cyanocobalamin: about 6 days, with long-term tissue storage.
Absorption
Well absorbed orally. Thiamine and Pyridoxine are absorbed primarily in the small intestine. Cyanocobalamin absorption requires intrinsic factor and occurs in the ileum.
Metabolism
Primarily hepatic (in the liver).
Side Effects
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to Thiamine, Pyridoxine, Cyanocobalamin, or any other component of the tablet.
Drug Interactions
Levodopa
Pyridoxine may reduce the efficacy of levodopa (used without a decarboxylase inhibitor like carbidopa) by increasing its peripheral metabolism.
Metformin
Long-term use of metformin may reduce Vitamin B12 absorption.
Folic Acid
Large doses of folic acid can mask a Vitamin B12 deficiency.
Phenobarbital and Phenytoin
High doses of pyridoxine may decrease serum concentrations of phenobarbital and phenytoin.
Storage
Store in a cool, dry place, below 30°C. Protect from light and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.
Overdose
Overdose is rare with water-soluble vitamins. Very high, prolonged doses of Pyridoxine (Vitamin B6) may lead to peripheral neuropathy. Management is symptomatic and supportive. Discontinue the drug and consult a doctor.
Pregnancy & Lactation
Generally considered safe during pregnancy and lactation at recommended dosages. However, high doses should be used only if clearly needed and under medical supervision. Consult a doctor before use.
