Cefuroxime is a second-generation cephalosporin that inhibits bacterial cell wall synthesis by binding to penicillin-binding proteins (PBPs). Clavulanic acid is a beta-lactamase inhibitor that protects cefuroxime from degradation by beta-lactamase enzymes produced by resistant bacteria, thereby extending its antibacterial spectrum.

• Hypersensitivity to cefuroxime, clavulanic acid, any other cephalosporin antibiotic, or any penicillin antibiotic.
• History of cholestatic jaundice/hepatic dysfunction associated with penicillin or cephalosporin use.

Store dry powder below 30°C. Store reconstituted suspension in a refrigerator (2-8°C) and discard after 7-10 days.

Symptoms may include gastrointestinal upset, convulsions. Treatment is supportive; hemodialysis can be used to remove cefuroxime and clavulanate from the blood.

Use with caution during pregnancy if clearly needed, Category B. Excreted in breast milk in small amounts; generally considered compatible with breastfeeding, but monitor infant for potential side effects like diarrhea or candidiasis.
