Description
Overview of the medicine
Clindax 300 mg Injection contains Clindamycin, a lincosamide antibiotic used to treat various serious bacterial infections. It works by stopping the growth of bacteria.
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
300-600 mg every 6-8 hours, administered intramuscularly (IM) or intravenously (IV). For severe infections, doses up to 2.7 g/day (in 2-4 equally divided doses) may be given. IV infusion should be administered slowly over 10-60 minutes.
Elderly
Similar to adult dosage; monitor for any age-related decrease in organ function.
Renal_impairment
No dose adjustment is generally required for mild to moderate renal impairment. For severe impairment, dose adjustment may not be necessary if given every 8 hours, but monitoring is advised.
How to Take
Clindax Injection can be administered either intramuscularly (IM) or by intravenous (IV) infusion. For IV use, the solution must be diluted before infusion and administered over at least 10-60 minutes; do not administer as a bolus injection. IM injections should be given deep into a large muscle.
Mechanism of Action
Clindamycin inhibits bacterial protein synthesis by binding to the 50S ribosomal subunit, thereby preventing peptide chain elongation.
Pharmacokinetics
Onset
Rapidly achieved peak plasma concentrations after IM injection (within 3 hours); immediate with IV infusion.
Excretion
Approximately 10-20% excreted in urine, and a larger portion (about 30-40%) excreted in feces via bile. The remainder is excreted as inactive metabolites.
Half life
Approximately 2-3 hours in adults with normal renal and hepatic function.
Absorption
Rapid and complete absorption after intramuscular (IM) administration. Intravenous (IV) administration provides immediate systemic availability.
Metabolism
Extensively metabolized in the liver to active (e.g., N-demethyl clindamycin) and inactive metabolites.
Side Effects
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to clindamycin or lincomycin
- History of antibiotic-associated colitis
Drug Interactions
Erythromycin
Due to antagonistic effects, clindamycin and erythromycin should not be administered concurrently.
Opioid analgesics
May increase the risk of respiratory depression when co-administered.
Neuromuscular blocking agents
Clindamycin has neuromuscular blocking properties and may enhance the action of other neuromuscular blocking agents, leading to increased muscle weakness.
Storage
Store below 30°C. Do not freeze. Protect from light. Keep out of reach of children.
Overdose
In case of overdose, symptomatic and supportive treatment is recommended. Hemodialysis and peritoneal dialysis are not effective in removing clindamycin from the blood.
Pregnancy & Lactation
Pregnancy Category B. Studies in animals have shown no evidence of harm to the fetus. However, there are no adequate and well-controlled studies in pregnant women. It should be used during pregnancy only if clearly needed. Clindamycin is excreted in human milk; caution is advised when administered to a nursing mother.

Doctor Notes
- Emphasize the importance of completing the full course of treatment.
- Educate patients on the risk of *C. difficile*-associated diarrhea and advise them to seek medical attention for severe, persistent diarrhea.
- Consider alternative agents or dose adjustment in patients with significant hepatic impairment, though clindamycin is not primarily renally eliminated.
Patient Guidelines
- Complete the full course of treatment as prescribed by your doctor, even if symptoms improve.
- Report any severe or persistent diarrhea to your doctor immediately.
- Inform your doctor about any known allergies or medical conditions before starting treatment.
Missed Dose Advice
If a dose of Clindax Injection is missed, administer it as soon as you remember. However, if it is almost time for your next scheduled dose, skip the missed dose and continue with your regular dosing schedule. Do not double the dose to catch up.
Driving Precautions
Clindamycin is generally not expected to affect the ability to drive or operate machinery. However, if you experience dizziness or visual disturbances, avoid such activities.
Lifestyle Advice
