Description
Overview of the medicine
Evo-05 Eye Drop contains Moxifloxacin 0.5%, a fourth-generation fluoroquinolone antibiotic used for the treatment of bacterial conjunctivitis and other ocular infections. It works by inhibiting bacterial DNA gyrase and topoisomerase IV, essential enzymes for bacterial DNA replication and repair.
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
Instill one drop in the affected eye(s) 3 times a day for 7 days.
Elderly
No dosage adjustment necessary.
Renal_impairment
No dosage adjustment necessary.
How to Take
For ophthalmic use only. Tilt head back, pull down lower eyelid to create a pouch, and instill the drop without touching the eye or eyelid with the dropper tip. Close eye gently for a few seconds. If using other eye drops, wait at least 5 minutes between applications.
Mechanism of Action
Moxifloxacin inhibits bacterial DNA gyrase and topoisomerase IV, enzymes necessary for DNA replication, transcription, repair, and recombination. This leads to DNA strand breakage and cell death.
Pharmacokinetics
Onset
Rapid onset of action, typically within minutes for antibacterial effect.
Excretion
Mainly excreted unchanged in urine and feces systemically, but local elimination occurs via tear film and ocular circulation.
Half life
Systemic half-life is around 12 hours, but local ocular half-life is not precisely defined due to minimal systemic absorption.
Absorption
Minimal systemic absorption after ocular administration. Ocular tissue concentrations are achieved effectively.
Metabolism
Minimally metabolized; primarily excreted unchanged.
Side Effects
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to Moxifloxacin or other quinolones, or to any component of the medication.
Drug Interactions
Systemic Drugs
Minimal systemic absorption, so clinically significant systemic drug interactions are unlikely with ophthalmic use.
Other Ophthalmic Preparations
If using more than one topical ophthalmic drug, administer them at least 5 minutes apart to avoid washout.
Storage
Store at controlled room temperature (20-25°C). Do not freeze. Keep the bottle tightly closed when not in use. Protect from light.
Overdose
Ocular overdose is unlikely to cause systemic toxicity due to minimal systemic absorption. In case of topical overdose, the eye(s) may be flushed with lukewarm water. Systemic overdose is highly unlikely.
Pregnancy & Lactation
Pregnancy Category C. Use only if potential benefit justifies potential risk to the fetus. Caution should be exercised when administered to a nursing mother due to unknown excretion in human milk.
