Fodexil 1000 mg Tablet is a broad-spectrum antibiotic belonging to the fluoroquinolone class, primarily used to treat various bacterial infections.
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
1000 mg orally once daily for 7-14 days, depending on the infection type and severity.
Elderly
No specific dose adjustment is required based on age alone, but renal function should be assessed.
Renal_impairment
Dosage reduction is necessary for patients with creatinine clearance < 50 mL/min. Consult product leaflet for specific guidelines.
How to Take
Administer orally, with or without food. Ensure adequate hydration. Avoid taking with dairy products or antacids.
Mechanism of Action
Fodexil inhibits bacterial DNA gyrase and topoisomerase IV, essential enzymes involved in bacterial DNA replication, transcription, repair, and recombination, leading to bacterial cell death.

Side Effects
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to fodexil or other fluoroquinolones.
- History of tendon disorders related to fluoroquinolone administration.
- Epilepsy or other seizure disorders.
Drug Interactions
NSAIDs
Concomitant use with NSAIDs may increase the risk of CNS stimulation and convulsive seizures.
Warfarin
May enhance the anticoagulant effects of warfarin, increasing bleeding risk. INR monitoring is recommended.
Corticosteroids
May increase the risk of tendon rupture when co-administered with fluoroquinolones.
Antacids/Sucralfate/Cations
Can significantly reduce fodexil absorption. Administer fodexil 2 hours before or 6 hours after these agents.
Storage
Store below 30°C in a dry place, away from light and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.
Overdose
In case of an overdose, symptoms may include nausea, vomiting, dizziness, confusion, seizures, and prolonged QT interval. Management is symptomatic and supportive. Gastric lavage and activated charcoal may be considered soon after ingestion.
Pregnancy & Lactation
Pregnancy Category C. Not recommended during pregnancy or lactation due to potential risks to fetal cartilage development and excretion into breast milk. Use only if potential benefit outweighs risk.

- Refrain from consuming dairy products or calcium-fortified foods/beverages within 2 hours before or 6 hours after taking fodexil.
