How to Take
Administer orally with or without food. Use the provided dropper for accurate measurement. Shake well before use. Complete the full course of treatment as prescribed by the doctor.
Mechanism of Action
Amoxicillin acts by inhibiting bacterial cell wall synthesis, leading to cell lysis and bacterial death. It binds to penicillin-binding proteins (PBPs) located inside the bacterial cell wall.
Pharmacokinetics
Onset
Within 30-60 minutes.
Excretion
Primarily excreted unchanged by the kidneys via tubular secretion and glomerular filtration.
Half life
Approximately 1-1.5 hours in individuals with normal renal function.
Absorption
Rapidly and well absorbed after oral administration, with peak plasma concentrations occurring within 1-2 hours.
Metabolism
Partially metabolized in the liver; about 10-25% of the dose is converted to inactive metabolites.
Side Effects
Contraindications
- •Hypersensitivity to amoxicillin, other penicillins, or any component of the formulation.
- •History of severe immediate hypersensitivity reactions (e.g., anaphylaxis) to any beta-lactam agent (e.g., cephalosporins, carbapenems).
Drug Interactions
Probenecid
Decreases the renal tubular secretion of amoxicillin, leading to increased and prolonged blood levels.
Methotrexate
May increase methotrexate toxicity due to reduced renal excretion.
Oral contraceptives
May reduce the efficacy of oral contraceptives in some cases, necessitating additional contraceptive methods.
Warfarin and other oral anticoagulants
May increase the anticoagulant effect, requiring close monitoring of INR.
Storage
Store the dry powder below 30°C in a dry place, protected from light. Do not refrigerate. Keep out of reach of children. After reconstitution, store as directed on the label (usually below 25°C or refrigerated, and discard after 7-14 days).
Overdose
Symptoms of overdose may include gastrointestinal disturbances such as nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea. Management is primarily symptomatic and supportive.
Pregnancy & Lactation
Amoxicillin is generally considered safe during pregnancy (Category B) and lactation. However, use should be under medical supervision.
