Description
Overview of the medicine
Precodil 2 mg Tablet contains Flupentixol, a thioxanthene derivative antipsychotic medication. It is primarily used for the treatment of schizophrenia and other psychoses. In lower doses, it can also be used for depressive states with apathy or anergia, and chronic anxiety.
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
For psychoses: Initially 3-9 mg daily in divided doses, increasing to 18 mg daily if needed. For depressive states/anxiety: 0.5 mg to 3 mg daily.
Elderly
Lower doses are typically recommended, usually half the adult dose. Close monitoring for side effects is advised.
Renal_impairment
Generally no dose adjustment required, but caution is advised in severe renal impairment.
How to Take
Take orally with or without food. Swallow the tablet whole with water. Do not crush or chew it.
Mechanism of Action
Flupentixol acts as a dopamine receptor antagonist, primarily blocking D1 and D2 dopamine receptors in the brain. It also possesses some alpha-1 adrenergic and serotonin 5-HT2 receptor blocking activity, contributing to its antipsychotic, antidepressant, and anxiolytic effects.
Pharmacokinetics
Onset
Antipsychotic effects may take several days to weeks to fully manifest. Antidepressant effects typically within a few days.
Excretion
Mainly excreted via feces (biliary excretion) and to a lesser extent via urine.
Half life
Approximately 35 hours (oral formulation).
Absorption
Well absorbed orally, peak plasma concentrations reached in 3-8 hours.
Metabolism
Extensively metabolized in the liver, primarily via sulfoxidation, N-dealkylation, and glucuronidation.

Dopamine agonists (e.g., levodopa)
Antagonistic effects, potentially reducing the efficacy of dopamine agonists.
CNS depressants (alcohol, barbiturates, opioids)
Increased sedation and central nervous system depression.
Storage
Store below 30°C in a dry place, protected from light and moisture. Keep out of reach and sight of children.
Overdose
