A-Spasm 5 mg tablet contains Dicyclomine Hydrochloride, an antispasmodic agent used to relieve smooth muscle spasms of the gastrointestinal tract, especially in conditions like Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS).
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
Oral: 5 mg three to four times daily. Dosage may be increased to 10 mg three to four times daily if required, as directed by physician.
Elderly
Lower initial doses may be considered for elderly patients, as directed by physician.
Renal_impairment
Use with caution; dosage adjustment may be necessary in severe renal impairment.
How to Take
Take orally with or without food, as directed by your physician.
Mechanism of Action
Dicyclomine hydrochloride exerts its antispasmodic effect by two mechanisms: a specific anticholinergic (antimuscarinic) effect on acetylcholine receptors and a direct smooth muscle relaxant effect.

Contraindications

Drug Interactions
Digoxin
May increase digoxin serum levels.
Antacids
May decrease the absorption of dicyclomine. Administer dicyclomine at least 2 hours before or after antacids.
Metoclopramide
Antagonistic effects on GI motility.
Other anticholinergics
Increased risk of anticholinergic side effects.
CNS depressants (e.g., alcohol, benzodiazepines)

Overdose
Symptoms of overdose include central nervous system (CNS) stimulation, agitation, delirium, coma, hallucinations, tachycardia, hyperthermia, hypertension, and respiratory depression. Management is supportive, including gastric lavage, activated charcoal, and symptomatic treatment. Physostigmine may be considered for severe anticholinergic symptoms.
Pregnancy & Lactation
Pregnancy Category B. Use only if clearly needed. Dicyclomine is excreted in breast milk; breastfeeding is not recommended.
