Description
Overview of the medicine
Adam-33 is a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI) used to treat various mental health conditions including major depressive disorder, generalized anxiety disorder, panic disorder, and obsessive-compulsive disorder. It works by increasing the levels of serotonin in the brain, a neurotransmitter associated with mood regulation.
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
Initial dose 5 mg once daily, may be increased to 10-20 mg once daily after several weeks based on response and tolerability. Max dose typically 20 mg/day.
Elderly
Lower starting dose, e.g., 5 mg once daily, with careful titration. Max dose usually 10 mg/day.
Renal_impairment
No dosage adjustment necessary for mild to moderate impairment. Use with caution in severe impairment.
How to Take
Adam-33 tablets should be taken orally once daily, in the morning or evening, with or without food. Swallow the tablet whole with water; do not crush or chew.
Mechanism of Action
Adam-33 selectively inhibits the reuptake of serotonin (5-HT) into the presynaptic neuron, thereby increasing the concentration of 5-HT in the synaptic cleft. This enhanced serotonergic neurotransmission is thought to be responsible for its antidepressant and anxiolytic effects.
Pharmacokinetics
Onset
Therapeutic effects may take 2-4 weeks to become apparent, although some improvement in symptoms may be observed earlier.
Excretion
Excreted predominantly in the urine, with a smaller portion in feces.
Half life
Approximately 24-30 hours, allowing for once-daily dosing.
Absorption
Well absorbed orally, peak plasma concentrations typically achieved within 2-4 hours.
Metabolism
Extensively metabolized in the liver, primarily via CYP2C19 and CYP3A4 enzymes, into inactive metabolites.
