How to Take
Adtrizin tablets can be taken orally with or without food. Swallow the tablet whole with a glass of water.
Mechanism of Action

20-60 minutes

Primarily via urine as unchanged drug; a small amount is excreted in feces.
Half life
Approximately 8-11 hours (adults)
Absorption
Rapidly and well absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract after oral administration. Peak plasma concentrations are reached within 1 hour.
Metabolism
Minimal hepatic metabolism; approximately two-thirds of the administered dose is excreted unchanged in urine.
Side Effects
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to cetirizine, hydroxyzine, or any piperazine derivatives.
- Severe renal impairment (creatinine clearance less than 10 ml/min).
- Patients with rare hereditary problems of galactose intolerance, the Lapp lactase deficiency or glucose-galactose malabsorption.
Drug Interactions
Ritonavir
Increases cetirizine plasma levels and prolongs its half-life, potentially increasing adverse effects.
Theophylline
A small decrease in cetirizine clearance has been observed, but the clinical significance is unknown.
Alcohol and CNS Depressants
Concurrent use may enhance CNS depression and impair performance.
Storage
Store below 30°C in a dry place, away from light and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.
Overdose
Symptoms of overdose include drowsiness, sedation, tachycardia, urinary retention, and tremor. Management should be symptomatic and supportive, including gastric lavage or induced emesis if ingestion is recent. No specific antidote is known.
Pregnancy & Lactation
Pregnancy Category B. Studies in animals have not shown harm to the fetus, but there are no adequate and well-controlled studies in pregnant women. Use only if clearly needed. Cetirizine is excreted into breast milk; therefore, caution should be exercised when administered to a nursing woman.
