Anzitor (Olanzapine) is an atypical antipsychotic medication used to treat schizophrenia and bipolar disorder (manic or mixed episodes), and for maintenance therapy of bipolar I disorder.
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
Schizophrenia: Initially 10-15 mg/day, target dose 10-20 mg/day. Bipolar mania: 10-15 mg/day (monotherapy) or 10 mg/day (combination). Max 20 mg/day.
Elderly
Lower starting dose, e.g., 5 mg/day, with slow titration based on clinical response and tolerability.
Renal_impairment
No specific dose adjustment is generally required, but caution is advised. Monitor patients carefully.
How to Take
Take orally, once daily, with or without food.
Mechanism of Action
Olanzapine works by blocking several receptors in the brain, primarily dopamine D2 and serotonin 5-HT2A receptors, which helps in managing psychotic symptoms and stabilizing mood.
