Description
Overview of the medicine
Brodil Levo 2 mg Tablet contains Levosalbutamol, a selective short-acting beta-2 adrenergic agonist used to relieve symptoms of asthma and COPD such as coughing, wheezing, and shortness of breath.
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
The usual recommended dose is 2 mg (one tablet) three times daily. May be adjusted based on patient response and tolerability.
Elderly
Dosage adjustment may be considered, starting with a lower dose and monitoring closely due to potential age-related organ function decline.
Renal_impairment
No specific dosage adjustment guidance for mild to moderate renal impairment, but caution is advised. For severe impairment, dose reduction may be necessary.
How to Take
Oral administration. Take the tablet with or without food, as directed by your physician. Do not crush, chew, or break the tablet.
Mechanism of Action
Levosalbutamol selectively stimulates beta-2 adrenergic receptors in the bronchial smooth muscle, leading to bronchodilation. This relaxes the muscles in the airways, opening them up and making breathing easier.
Pharmacokinetics
Onset
30-60 minutes after oral administration.
Excretion
Mainly excreted in the urine, both as unchanged drug and metabolites.
Half life
Approximately 3.3-4 hours.
Absorption
Rapidly absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract after oral administration.
Metabolism
Primarily metabolized in the liver to an inactive sulfate conjugate.
Side Effects
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to Levosalbutamol or any component of the formulation.
- Hypersensitivity to Albuterol or Salbutamol.
Drug Interactions
Digoxin
May decrease digoxin levels.
Diuretics (e.g., Furosemide)
May potentiate hypokalemia associated with beta-agonists.
Beta-blockers (e.g., Propranolol)
May diminish the bronchodilator effect of Levosalbutamol and increase the risk of bronchospasm.
Monoamine Oxidase Inhibitors (MAOIs) and Tricyclic Antidepressants (TCAs)
May potentiate the cardiovascular effects of Levosalbutamol.
Storage
Store below 30°C in a dry place, away from light and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.
Overdose
Symptoms of overdose include tremor, palpitations, tachycardia, headache, and nervousness. In severe cases, hypokalemia, metabolic acidosis, and cardiac arrest may occur. Treatment is supportive and symptomatic.
Pregnancy & Lactation
Pregnancy Category C. Use only if the potential benefit justifies the potential risk to the fetus. It is unknown whether Levosalbutamol is excreted in human milk; caution should be exercised when administered to a nursing woman.

WHO Essential Medicine
YesClinical Trials
Numerous clinical trials have established the efficacy and safety of levosalbutamol in the treatment of asthma and COPD, demonstrating its comparable efficacy to racemic salbutamol with potentially fewer side effects due to its pure R-isomer form.
Lab Monitoring
- Serum potassium levels (especially in patients receiving diuretics or corticosteroids)
- Blood glucose levels (in diabetic patients)
- Pulmonary function tests (periodically to assess control of symptoms)
Doctor Notes
- Counsel patients on proper use and warning signs of worsening respiratory condition.
- Caution in patients with cardiovascular disorders, hyperthyroidism, diabetes mellitus, or seizure disorders.
- Monitor for hypokalemia, especially with concomitant use of diuretics or xanthines.

- Do not exceed the recommended dose.
- Inform your doctor if your symptoms worsen or if you need to use the medication more frequently.
- Avoid contact with eyes.
- Store at room temperature away from moisture and heat.
Missed Dose Advice
If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and resume your regular dosing schedule. Do not double the dose to catch up.
Driving Precautions
May cause dizziness or tremor in some individuals. If affected, avoid driving or operating machinery.
Lifestyle Advice
- Avoid triggers that worsen asthma/COPD (e.g., smoke, allergens).
- Maintain a healthy lifestyle, including regular exercise and a balanced diet.
- Consider flu and pneumonia vaccinations as recommended by your doctor.
