Description
Overview of the medicine
Burnless-1-Cream is a topical medication formulated to provide rapid pain relief, prevent infection, and aid in the healing of minor burns, scalds, cuts, and abrasions. It contains a local anesthetic for pain and an antiseptic to reduce bacterial growth.
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
Apply a thin layer of cream to the affected area 2-3 times daily, or as directed by a physician. Do not apply to large areas or for prolonged periods.
Elderly
Same as adult dosage. Use with caution in patients with very fragile skin.
Renal_impairment
No specific dosage adjustment required for topical application due to minimal systemic absorption.
How to Take
For external use only. Wash hands before and after application. Apply gently to the affected area. Avoid contact with eyes, nose, mouth, and other mucous membranes.
Mechanism of Action
Lidocaine acts as a local anesthetic by stabilizing the neuronal membrane, preventing the initiation and conduction of nerve impulses, thereby producing local anesthesia. Chlorhexidine is a broad-spectrum antiseptic that works by disrupting the bacterial cell membrane, leading to cell content leakage and bacterial cell death.
Pharmacokinetics
Onset
Within 2-5 minutes of application.
Excretion
Mainly renal excretion for absorbed lidocaine metabolites; chlorhexidine mostly remains on the skin or is excreted unchanged in feces if ingested.
Half life
Not relevant for topical use with minimal systemic absorption; systemic half-life of lidocaine is approximately 1.5-2 hours if absorbed.
Absorption
Minimal systemic absorption through intact skin. Absorption may increase with damaged skin or prolonged application.
Metabolism
Primarily hepatic metabolism for absorbed lidocaine; chlorhexidine is not significantly metabolized.
Side Effects
Contraindications
- Known hypersensitivity to lidocaine, chlorhexidine, or any other component of the cream
- Deep or puncture wounds
- Severe burns
- Bites or stings that have become infected or are associated with systemic symptoms
Drug Interactions
Other local anesthetics
Concurrent use may increase systemic absorption and risk of systemic toxicity.
Sulphonamides or blood products
Chlorhexidine may be inactivated by these substances.
Storage
Store below 30°C in a dry place, away from direct sunlight. Do not freeze. Keep out of reach of children.
Overdose
Overdose from topical application is unlikely unless applied to large areas of broken skin or used inappropriately for prolonged periods. Symptoms of systemic lidocaine toxicity may include dizziness, numbness, tremors, and in severe cases, seizures or cardiovascular effects. Chlorhexidine overdose is generally not systemic but may cause local irritation.
Pregnancy & Lactation
Use during pregnancy and lactation should only be done if clearly needed and under medical supervision. Minimal systemic absorption is expected, but caution is advised.
