Description
Overview of the medicine
Catalan-009 Eye Drop is an ophthalmic solution containing a novel agent indicated for the symptomatic treatment of seasonal allergic conjunctivitis.
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
Instill 1 drop in the affected eye(s) twice daily, approximately 6 to 8 hours apart.
Elderly
No dosage adjustment necessary.
Renal_impairment
No dosage adjustment necessary due to minimal systemic absorption.
How to Take
For ophthalmic use only. Do not touch the dropper tip to any surface to avoid contamination. Remove contact lenses before administration and wait at least 15 minutes before reinserting them.
Mechanism of Action
It acts as a dual-acting agent, combining potent H1-receptor antagonism with mast cell stabilizing properties, thereby inhibiting the release of inflammatory mediators from mast cells and reducing ocular itching and redness.
Pharmacokinetics
Onset
Within minutes (typically 15-30 minutes)
Excretion
Mainly via ocular drainage; any systemically absorbed drug is excreted renally.
Half life
Approximately 3-4 hours in ocular tissue, systemic half-life is longer but negligible due to low absorption.
Absorption
Minimal systemic absorption following topical ocular administration.
Metabolism
Primarily metabolized in ocular tissues by esterases; systemic metabolism is minor.
Side Effects
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to any component of the medication.
Drug Interactions
Systemic antihistamines
May enhance systemic side effects, though rare with ophthalmic use.
Other ophthalmic solutions
Wait at least 5 minutes between applying different eye drops to prevent wash-out.
Storage
Store at room temperature (below 30°C). Do not refrigerate or freeze. Keep out of reach of children.
Overdose
Due to minimal systemic absorption, overdose from topical ocular administration is unlikely. If ingested, seek medical advice.
Pregnancy & Lactation
Use in pregnancy only if clearly needed. Exercise caution when administered to a nursing woman. Consult a doctor.
