Description
Overview of the medicine
Cofcut-75 mg syrup contains Dextromethorphan Hydrobromide, a cough suppressant used to temporarily relieve cough caused by the common cold, flu, or other irritations.
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
15 ml (containing 75 mg Dextromethorphan HBr) every 6-8 hours as needed, not to exceed 4 doses (60 ml) in 24 hours. Use a calibrated measuring device.
Elderly
Similar to adult dosage; however, start with a lower dose and monitor for adverse effects due to potential altered metabolism or renal function.
Renal_impairment
Use with caution. Dose adjustment may be necessary depending on the degree of renal impairment. Consult a physician.
How to Take
Administer orally, with or without food. Use the provided measuring cup or spoon for accurate dosing. Shake the bottle well before use.
Mechanism of Action
Dextromethorphan acts centrally on the cough center in the medulla oblongata to elevate the cough threshold, thereby suppressing the cough reflex.
Pharmacokinetics
Onset
15-30 minutes
Excretion
Mainly excreted by the kidneys as unchanged drug and metabolites within 24 hours.
Half life
1.2 to 3.9 hours for Dextromethorphan, longer for its active metabolite Dextrorphan (up to 10 hours).
Absorption
Rapidly absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract after oral administration.
Metabolism
Extensively metabolized by the liver, primarily via CYP2D6 enzyme, to its active metabolite dextrorphan.
